Stress analysis and fracture simulation of aluminosilicate glass plates under Ring-On-Ring loading

Ring-On-Ring (ROR) tests have been widely applied to evaluate the biaxial flexural strength of brittle materials. Properly designed geometry specimens and loading configurations are essential for accurate test results. In this paper, stress distribution round glass plates subjected between concentric rings was investigated via finite element analysis. particular, effects ratio ring diameter, overhang thickness were studied discussed. ROR on aluminosilicate then conducted together with numerical simulations based smeared fixed crack method. The out-of-plane deformation can be reproduced well by model. order mimic observed fracture modes, models different mesh geometries utilized compared. Unstructured quadrilateral triangular types proven efficient in reproducing failure morphology specimens.
